Here are some pictures and videos of our butterflies living in their net before I release them in to the wild!Waffles, Garth, Dr. Pillar, and Butter are all here! As we suspected Rosie and Charlie Brown unfortunately didn't make it. But check out this video below of our new butterfly friends and some of the pictures! The red liquid is called meconium and it is a waste product that comes out of the chrysalis when the butterfly does. Don't worry, it's not blood!
They are getting really close to coming out! I see one's wings. Check out the video below!UPDATE: The one I saw came out of it's chrysalis as soon as I went back out to check! Our first butterfly is here, WAFFLES!They are now all officially in the butterfly nest and we will wait for their arrival as butterflies! I moved over Charlie Brown and Rosie too just in case they are ok.Mr. Morris and I moved the caterpillars over into the butterfly nest! Check out the video of how we did that.Waffles, Garth, Dr. Pillar, and Butter are doing well. Tomorrow I will be moving them to the net and seeing if Rosie or Charlie Brown are still alive. All of the caterpillars have begun to form a chrysalis now. There seems to only be 4 caterpillars that are going to make it to this next stage of the life cycle but maybe the ones that fell will too. They are starting to form a chrysalis! Unfortunately two of the caterpillars fell to the bottom and are forming their chrysalis down there so it is unlikely they will survive. But, here are pictures of the four caterpillars who are doing well....their names are: Waffles, Garth, Dr. Pillar, and Butter! |
